PETS & MUNIA
PETS recording back on monday. Got 4 songs mostly done. I think we are redoing one of them. Man it wasa blast though. there were cords, microphones, lyric sheets, micstands, newcastles, and PETS all over the garage.
We used my small amp(with no speaker) to get some distortion on the vocals. It also has a reverb unit in it so we played with that a little. On one song there was to be extra vocals that we recorded along with the Lead vocal. So we set up a makeshift vocal booth. I have these big cabinets along the back wall of the garage. we opened two doors, and hung a sleeping bag over them to create a little room.
Through a mic in there quick and got it rolling. Sounds fine.
Looks like they are happy thus far, and have agreed to be the FEB 2004 Audio Calendar.
As for the January Audio Calendar, Munia has been busy as well. Last night we went out to Dig-Doug studio for some vocal work. Nailed three songs. Doug has his
akg 414 that we used for the vocals. He also has apreamp, but im unsure of the brand. Vocals came out good though, and with a little fiddling we got them to sound cool. Had some problems working out the harmonies on the spot, so we will go back out next week for more fun.
Black Dahlias have a show next thursday at Old I, with the
Washdown. should be fun.
PETS TONIGHT
So tonight we get to record some vocals for the 5 or so songs we did.
Now vocals have been my one spot where i need to realy focus and listen carefully. Past recordings ive messed up some songs here and there, so ive realy got take my time.
They've mentioned that they want to get some distorted vocals, so im trying to think of the different way we could do that:
1- distortion pedal. mic to mixer to compressor to rat pedal to tape.
2- amp - mic to mixer to amp, mic on the amp (to comp?) to tape.
3- reamp-record the track, then run a line out to an amp, mic that and re-record that new track to a different track.
4-amp direct. i have an old amp that is somewhat broken. the part on the circuit board where the speakers connect to has been broken. so i can connect the amp to its speaker anymore, but the amp still works. it has a headphone out, so we have a line. and if its distorted anyways the little bit of noise from the headphone jack wont matter.
so theres that.
The Frenchmen are coming! this saturday we begin basic tracking in the house. Doug's comin over and bringin the ADAT. should prove to be fun.
more tomorrow.
