So the next two projects are with the Hostages, and Final Summation.
Bear called me up last night. I havent talked with him in years. But they talked with Mickie and got my number. They want to record some demo songs before they go into the studio, so they can get an idea of how its all going to work. good idea. these guys have more of a stret punk style to them and it'll be good to get some nice an fast music goin on. plus i havent hung out with jordan in years either. what else, oh their drummer, Tom, is left handed, i havent miked up a left handed drum set yet, so that will be new for me.
PETS news. Their new 7inch is in, just awaiting a homemade stamp(which, i'll be providing). 4 songs i think. Also their 3 song demo was reviewed in the June 2004 issue of Alive and Kicking. Heres a snippet:
"This is only a 3 song demo, but to me it sounds better than a lot of professionaly produced stuff that i have occasion to hear." -Cary Rodda
i must say that i wasnt too hot on the recording we did, i liked it, just i didnt think its quite there. But Cary thinks otherwise. I will say that the new PETS song, Coldhouse (which isnt released yet), is my best work todate.
Was rummaging through the garage
last night and came across a couple
microphones that i had deemed broken.
So i pulled em apart to fix em up.
Two of them were these radio shack
drum mics i bought a few years back.
I used them live, and they sounded ok.
They come with drum clips to mount them
right on the drums. this worked great
in a live setting, but ive read you
shouldnt use these mounts for studio
work. i guess they transmit noise right
to the mic, which makes sense.
But fixin them up was easy. I took
the cap off and noticed a lead wasnt
connecting. I tested it by pushing them
together while plugged into my mixer,
and sure enough "hey, hey, hey" was comin
through the speakers. so a little solder
and we were good to go. I did notice that
after soldering one back to health, i
screwed on the cap again and it sliced
right through the wire! i think thats why
they stopped working in the first place..
Another mic was an old crappy mic. it has
an on/off switch. i pulled the whole thing
apart and noticed everything was wired,
there werent any lose connections. so i tried
cliping out the on off switch and re-wiring the
wires back together, which provided signal.
sweet! put the whole thing back together.
the last mic was an old sm 58. it was already
working, i just needed to rescrew the plug back
into place so when you unplug the mic it wont pull
the guts out.
4 more mics repaired. i think i officaly have a
mic closet.
