Yet another Klondike and York Review c/o
these guys
*KLONDIKE AND YORK - The Holy Book LP (Weird Forest) $11
"Klondike & York's The Holy Book treads outsider jazz ramps as strangely as Arthur Doyle might. Chad Stockdale's tone is fractious and scattery, but follows neither the bellow nor the tinkle of the Euro free jazz tradition. If anything, he recalls the strangest players of the American fire music underground, who investigated internal chambers of passion with their reeds blazing softly. Skronky sax, scuddering drums, some wall-eyed synth, everything blended like some sorta weird stew of darkly boiling orgone. Its one of the best free jazz duo records to come outta Sacramento since [your favorite here]. And frankly, its even better than
that. - Byron Coley, Arthur Magazine July 2003
Found a review of a record i recorded:
Klondike and York
Not a big deal about the recording it self, but more as a record review. Still its cool, and they picked up on the home recording vibe.
Side note, the labels were hand carved rubber blocks, not screen printed......
So pending items include tonight: Army of Trees vocals, and possibly mixing the Lousy Bums Stuff.
Army of trees recording came out great. I actualy used a new mic on the drums. i have a stereo condenser mic for my portable minidisc. its a sony model, i always forget the number though. anyways i run two mixing boards (both small berhinger decks) side by side as preamps.
works fine. one board is for drums. four channels. the other board i mic the guitar and bass with. but this time i also did my stereo room mic on that board, sent the signal via the auxsend(prefader, so it dosent go to the main mix there) and sent it back over to the drum board and put it into the 5/6 line level channel for an extra track.
now i couldnt get it to run in stereo(if i had two aux sends that were both pre fader, i couldve....one is post fader though...)but it did add that extra room sound ive been missing. rad.
we did the extra stereo guitar tracks and were finished. perfect.
we did have a few problems with the bass, and had to go back and finish, but im very impressed with these dudes. they help their cool in the 92 degree weather.
So today we finish with the vocals, three songs, so it wont take long.. We also need to finish up mixing the Lousy Bums, maybe before...
The Army of Trees recording came about because of the cd they had released. It was a pain to listen to. Sucks cause some of those songs are pretty good, but the recording was crap. So i felt bold and steped up to tell them so, and that i could do a better job with my little toy recording setup. Not only were they impressed with the result thus far, but they had fun hangin out recording some songs. mission accomplished.
