Punching in....

Its diferent from machine to machine i imagine, but mine has a slight draw back. My 8track is a cassette machine. Punching in is fine and easy, arm the track, roll tape, hit record when the spart comes up. Now the tricky part is punching out. You gotta make sure that there is about a seconds worth of blankness on the track because the recording head slowly pulls of the tape. For the Army of trees stuff i erased some vocals a few times. Made it frustrating.

heres a comment about a helper monkey track, and a lousy bum track:

"...well, howsabout this? the two songs sound great. i had 'em playing
through my tiny computer speakers and everything sounded really good.
normally, i might go grab the headphones and try to figure something to
say about the hi-hat sound or whatever, but in this case i was simply
listening to a couple bands do their songs. i didn't care what mics
were used on the kick drum etc... i just dug the tracks. i mean, as
recordings go, they seemed just fine. in fact, the recordings were
quite nice, and i didn't have any inclination to dissect anything at
all. that's a pretty good sign. great job on your end and great job
from the bands. more please."

Rad! im doing somthing right..Coming up next weekend is the mighty VOL.4, drum n bass blastcore duo. Cant wait, im way more familiar with my gear now then i was when i first started to record them. VOL.4 is pretty much the first group recording project i had ever taken on. about 2 years ago or so.

VOL.4 says they have one song to record. this coming from a band that plays songs as short as 5 seconds or less. so i cant wait.

Army of Trees- Vocals

Spent last night recording vocals for Army of Trees.
Came out pretty good. One thing i made sure of was to use subtractive EQing rather than boosting. Worked well. I set Brad up with the mk-219 and
cut some low end and a little mid range also, not much though. THey came out clear and they dont compete with the guitars so they found their little niche.

We got all three songs done so i figured id make them up a cd. I think what i'll do is make a master, and leave in all the clicks and such, and then take it out to DigDoug Studios for a final mastering. Doug can remove all the clicks and maybe even put it through a mastering limiter.
Cool.

Didnt have time to Mix any of the Lousy Bums stuff, but maybe tonight.

Didnt do any recording/mixing this past weekend.
Instead took a much needed break to go see mum.

But will be doing a few more bands these next couple of months. I also havent worked any on the Audio Calendar. Time to do so.
